Akimoto Fujio 秋元不死男

His name was written like this
秋元 不二雄
FUJIO is a pun with "a man who does not die", an undying man.




His first haiku name was
東 京三（ひがし きょうぞう）Higashi Kyoozoo, Higashi Kyôzô

and 東京三は「京三東」（きょうさんとう）kyoosantoo (kyosanto)
(a pun with the name of the communist party of Japan, 共産党).

He was born in Yokohama. Since 1934, he joined the Shinkyo Haiku movement. Toward the end of WWII, he spent some time in prison.

“During wartime, many people were inflicted with wounds. The wound I received, which was inflicted by the Haiku Persecution Incident, was merely ‘a lump.’
Even though it was but ‘a lump,’ I will never forget its pain”
