Two days ago, I posted this at the Yahoo Tanka site ... it's a tanka, though.

looking at
a painting of the sky
by van Gogh
its wild comets and stars
staring out of my eyes

As this is a kigo / haiku site, though, I should oblige, but perhaps about something else.

Spain's Civil War ...
no wonder Picasso's heads
appear twisted

I am referring here to his famous 'Guernica'.

Another one I never imagined I would ever like is Rembrandt's painting of his second wife, Saskia. It's simplicity is as obvious as his affection for her.

in the pool
Saskia lifts her skirt
... his brush quickens

A not so internationally known Dutch painter is Paulus Potter, and his favourite subject was ... cows!

summer day ...
cows and museum guests
in the meadow

Last but not least, in the Rijksmuseum (pronounced 'Reichsmuseum'), one can find the world-famous Nightwatch, 'Nachtwacht' in Dutch. Its size is rather impressive, but, somehow, I did not feel like lingering too long in front of it.

I am
shorter than the smallest
Nightwatch subject

Retiling of Shosoin's roof completed

Work to retile the roof of the Shosoin Repository in the ancient capital of Nara has been completed.
Many ancient imperial treasures connected to the 8th-century Emperor Shomu are stored at Shosoin.
It's currently undergoing a major restoration project for the first time in about 100 years.
Members of the media were invited to the construction site on Tuesday to view the completion of the retiling process.
More than 34,000 tiles were replaced, including some 8th-century originals that are being reused.

On the southern and eastern sides, a traditional method involving a mixture of mud and straw was employed to fix the tiles.

The Imperial Household Agency, which oversees the treasure house, plans to show the construction process to the public in February next year.
The project is expected to continue until around October 2014.
